Mark Gorenstein was born in 1946 in Odessa, where he started to take his music classes in Professor Stolyarsky music school. Later he graduated from the Kishinev Music College and Kishinev Conservatory as a violinist. Since the seventies the musician has been living in Moscow. Mark Gorenshtein worked in the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra, then in the State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Evgene Svetlanov. Orchestral mastering attracted the musician implacably to studying conducting art. In 1984 Mark Gorenstein graduated from the Conducting department of the Novosibirsk Conservatory (Professor Arnold Kats). In 1985-1988 he was head of Budapest Symphony Orchestra (MAV), in 1989-1992 - chief conductor of the Pusan Symphony orchestra (Republic of Korea). Mark Gorenshtein performed as a sessional conductor in many countries all over the world.
In 1993 being head of the Russian Symphony Orchestra Gorenshtein, by the reasons of art, had to change practically all the musicians in the orchestra and invite very young, even teenage musicians – students of special institutions from different cities of Russia and CIS. In the same year of 1993 the Orchestra was given its new name – “Young Russia”. This top class team, successfully touring around many Russian cities and abroad, giving performances with well-known conductors and soloists, since September 2002 after Mark Gorenstein’s leaving for the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia is being headed by Jury Bashmet.
