Belgian music fanciers often consider Jongen to be the most important of the early 20th century composers from that small country. But to most collectors, he is known for mainly one work: the "Symphonie Concertante" for Organ and Orchestra, once famously recorded by Virgil Fox. The organ was the primary instrument of this fine composer, and the Sonata Eroica, Op. 94 has turned up quite frequently. Yet, until the publication of the book Joseph Jongen and His Organ Music by the British author John Scott Whiteley, his complete output was never cataloged. Now we present this first volume in what will be a complete series, allowing the public at large to finally hear this major body of work.
